Mike Boyle Chosen as North Mason "Citizen of the Year"

Mike Boyle was honored by members of the North Mason Chamber of Commerce when he was chosen as "Citizen of the Year" for 2003. Mike Greene, Chief of Mason County Fire District #2, shared the following comments about Boyle's accomplishments:

Mike Boyle defines community service. Words like humor, integrity, dedication, leadership and commitment may decribe him, but his actions define him. Mike's story is about the positive impact one person can makeon his entire community.

Mike spent his formative years on the other side of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. His working life began on the assembly line of Kenworth Trucks. When he left Kenworth, he was the superintendent.

Mike moved to Victor in 1996. As I look at Mike's accomplishments, it is amazing to me that he has lived in our community for only eight years.

Soon after leaving Kenworth, Mike started his own mortgage company. Due to Mike's hard work, North Bay Mortgage quickly became the #1 mortgage company in Mason County and employs 25 men and women.

An example of Mike's community involvement is the extraordinary effort and energy he spent on the unique signage, landscaping and blending of local artwork at the North Bay Mortgage building and property. It is a great source of community pride.

Another of Mike's accomplishments is that North Bay Mortgage ranks #1 in the state in the distribution of red, white and blue pens.

From the day he left his job at Kenworth, Mike has involved himself in our community. He is a member of the North Mason Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, Boys and Girls Club and the Victor Improvement Club. Mike is a charter member of the newly-formed North Mason Rotary Club and he was instrumental in the success of the club's event "Taste of Hood Canal."

Mike's community leadership positions include the presidency of the North Mason Chamber of Commerce, Victor Improvement Club and the Boys & Girls Club. Each time he has served in a leadership position, the community has benefited.

In addition to his service club memberships, Mike has served on several key committees supporting planning and funding for our community's schools, health care and future.

Mike is a member of the Belfair Sub-Area Planning Committee. He has served on the North Mason School District Advisory Committee and was chairperson of their successful levy campaign. He was one of the original members of the newly-formed Mason County Hospital District Advisory Committee and spearheaded the north-end hospital district bond campaign.

Not busy enough, he founded a political action citizens' committee called "North Mason NOW." The group gave a voice for local citizens to express their views of community issues.

Most people would be overwhelmed just attending that many meetings - but Mike doesn't just participate; he provides leadership.

Mike's community service is evident year-round. However, during the holiday season he shifts into an even higher gear. He is the driving force behind the annual community Easter Egg Hunt. Not only does he buy the candy, he helps stuff over 5,000 eggs and coordinates everything from traffic control to the Easter Bunny costume. During last year's Christmas holidays, Mike build a "Santa's Workshop" in front of his Belfair office. Every day for almost three weeks Santa waved at passing cars and made all of us smile about Christmas.

(Of course some kids complained that Santa Mike asked them if they knew that interest rates were dropping and whether their parents needs to refinance or get a second mortgage.)

Mike helps solve community problems. One of the major issues facing our area is the lack of employment and family wage jobs. Mike has served the last five years on a regional board of government and community leaders seeking practical solutions to the employment crisis facing our community.

Mike at Washington, DC for the WorkSource ProgramAs part of his work on the committee, Mike was instrumental in the development of a unique partnership between the state and federal government and the local Chamber of Commerce. A national model, this creative partnership has produced federal and state grant dollars that are being utilized for creative programs to put people to work and support local businesses.

I believe Mike's ability to work with people is one of the many reasons he is so successful. It is obvious to everyone that his only motivation it to makeour community a better place to live. Mike never wants to fix the blame for the past, but to fix the course rof the future. People trust his word because they witness his actions. He leads by example.

An example that shows us all what one dedicated and committed community servant can accomplish and the reason he is being honored today as our "Citizen of the Year."
